Saturn has completely redesigned its VUE SUV, adding a
Green Line trim touting the same mild hybrid technology found
in the Saturn Aura hybrid. Aside from its improved fuel economy,
the Saturn VUE Green Line operates much like the non-hybrid
model. A comfortable interior and an eye-catching exterior make
the VUE Green Line a good choice for those in need of a small
and efficient SUV.

Saturn Vue Greenline Hybrid SUV
With a fuel economy improvement of as much as 50 percent over the standard V6 Vue, General Motors says that adding its new Two-Mode hybrid
system makes this Green Line the world's most fuel efficient V6 SUV. And after the way Two-Mode performed in our abusive mileage test last month, the
2008 hybrid Vue is sounding pretty good to us, what with its 500-mile-plus range and 7.3-second 0-to-60 time (though official EPA numbers aren’t out
yet). The Green Line's 3.6-liter V6 incorporates variable valve timing and direct fuel injection, but it doesn't require premium fuel. The Two-Mode system
cuts off fuel to the engine during deceleration and idle, and uses regenerative braking to charge nickel-metal hydride batteries. The stored electricity
powers twin, active-cooled 55-kW electric motors integrated into the automatic transmission. Electric-only propulsion is used for low speeds and reverse,
and energy efficient accessories contribute to the Vue's verdant namesake and intention. Chassis and suspension refinements accommodate the
hybrid's altered weight distribution, and an energy-flow graphic in the center console illustrates power management. A leather-wrapped steering wheel
with integrated audio control and a six-speaker stereo are standard, while options include navigation and power sunroof. By building a reasonably
attractive hybrid SUV with a maximum towing load of 3500 pounds and performance that matches its non-hybrid stablemate, Saturn is living up to its new
image as a carmaker no longer interested in dull, appliance-like vehicles. Now that we've got the skinny on Saturn's latest hybrid, we're interested to see
how far the brand takes its future hybrid concepts. [Basem Wasef-popularmechanics.com]
